Having founded his own religious sect based on Christianity and assumed the role of prophet, Hlungwane created a veritable New Jerusalem in Mbhokoto, Limpopo. In this carved figure, the contemplative expression and stylised features emerge organically from the wood, reflecting the syncretic vision that shaped his figures, animals and fish.
